Is Google broken ?
I've been doing some research today, using Google, as has been my custom for years now.
Specifically, I've been researching high end linux ecommerce systems. But the results I've been finding have been crap. You could be forgiven for thinking that Google has deliberately obfuscated the listings in order to sell more ads. Certainly, for key ecommerce terms, the listings are inconsistent and poor.
Old sites with nothing on them, new sites unrelated to the queries expressed, and the ads encroaching ever further - from the top, the bottom and the sides, like a jungle threatening to overwhelm the real relevant information.
After two hours of frustration with Google, I decided to try Yahoo, but still raging at Google with ill-defined but strong feelings I told Yahoo that Google is fucked.
Yahoo responded with some excellent links, including http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/. It is worth a look. In fact, it is all true.
What a let down by a company in which we all had such high hopes.
Of course, Yahoo wasn't much better either, but more honest.
