A good week for spammers and hackers
The last two weeks have been among the worst weeks ever for email abuse. The Mytob virus is now resident on unguarded machines throughout the world, and its reach and efficiency seem to be growing steadily. Currently around 9background-color: #b7c3cf; -moz-border-radius: 10px; min-height: 20px; width: 575px; font-weight: normal; padding: 15px 15px 15px 15px;% of all email we receive is sent by a virus, a hacker or by spammers.
Among the latter, the Americans are still the worst, followed closely by the Chinese and the Koreans. But there is a growing amount of abuse coming from the Middle East, from South America and from Russia. If ISP's were to remove all defences from their email systems, the internet would go down in a matter of days. And even the best protected systems have no answer to emailers who spam in their name, and let them deal with the returns. Life is a bitch.
Ah well, it's Christmas soon!
