"Historic Scotland", one of the Quangos responsible for the incessant and terminal stifling of the Scottish economy, wants control of Dunnottar Castle. Unable to see a tourist site without trying to claim ownership of it, Historic Scotland claims that Dunnottar is not being marketed heavily enough.
According to Historic Scotland this beautiful site needs a gift shop, multilingual signs and a visitor centre, and therefore should be in public hands. Of course, by public hands they mean their own big greedy hands.
As someone who lives nearby the castle and makes ample use of its facilities, as far as I am concerned the castle is just perfect as it is!
How will it improve my enjoyment of it to have a gift shop and how patronising is it to have multilingual signs! The 9background-color: #b7c3cf; -moz-border-radius: 10px; min-height: 20px; width: 575px; font-weight: normal; padding: 15px 15px 15px 15px;% overseas visitors seem to manage fine at present without multilingual signs, and the "difficult access" (ie a long walk) to the site is part of its charm.
Bugger off Historic Scotland!

And to show that we really are nice people, here is a wee video from U-tube.
