Attracting Eyeballs

According to a recent study by usability expert Jackob Nielsen, there are 3 design elements that are most effective at attracting eyeballs:

  • Plain text
  • Faces
  • Cleavage

The most striking result from recent eyetracking studies showed that "banner blindness" is a fact of life. Users almost never look at anything that looks like it is an advertisement.

And of course it follows that the most effective ads, are those which don't look like ads.
