Anti-spam progress with open source technology

Our new anti-spam system, built using a combination of Open Source technologies (mimedefang, spamassassin, and spamhaus lookups) has managed to reduce the quantity of spam we handle by a massive amount.

For the first time in several years, spam has declined in significance for us. Almost all spam that gets through our defences should now be clearly marked [Spam?] allowing customers to setup a local filter to move it to a spam folder.

The impact on our own email practices has been immediate. Instead of facing hundreds of spam emails each morning, the flow has now slowed to a trickle, relieving the burden on our email servers, our legitimate email users, and ourselves.

Long may it continue.
